Gruit was an alternative to hops and was used in the Middle Ages to enhance the taste and quality of beer. There are still a few breweries that use gruit blends to produce beers such as the 5 Horns Brewery who creates its own concoctions with intriguing ingredients, indescribable tastes, and perhaps even some side effects... Nowadays, women advocate and express themselves without fearing to be burned at the stake. Witchcraft has become a metaphor for non-conformism, liberation, and a reaction to the patriarchy that is still prevalent in our society.
