The documentary Salt in Water was directed by Louay Dabous and produced by Atelier Graphoui as part of the Halaqat project open call, launched in 2021 with the support of the Goethe-Institut, in collaboration with Bozar, Cinemaximiliaan, and SIC.
Leaving one’s homeland reshapes identity and perspectives. Amjad and the director, both Druze, examine how their Syrian upbringing and migration to Europe influenced their diverging paths. The challenges of personal identity in a new environment are illustrated through layered monoprints, depicting salt in water — black and white inverting upon contact — a heritage that cannot be so easily dissolved.
